Our goal for attendance this year is 100%.  We can achieve this with your help.  We recognize the value when a student attends school daily and arrives on time.

We will formally recognize students who miss 3 or fewer days of school in a ceremony at the end of the school year.  Together, we can achieve our goal.

We ask that parents notify the school office if a child will be absent or ate for any reason.  Call the attendance line at (303) 326-1605 to notify the school.  When calling, please give your child’s name, teacher/room, reason why they will be out and who is calling.  In the event that we do not hear from you regarding your child’s absence, the attendance clerk will contact you at home or work.  This procedure enables us to account for all children.

Absences such as illness, injury, court, death of a family member are considered excused absences with proper documentation.

Students enrolled in the Aurora Public Schools are required to attend classes unless excused for good reason in accordance with the Colorado Compulsory Attendance Law.  It is the parent /guardian‘s responsibility to ensure that their child attends school. Children between the ages of 6 and 17 years of age are required by law to attend school. Students who miss more than 10 days of school are considered Habitually Truant.

Excessive absences affect the student‘s academic standing and, in accordance with state law, parents/legal guardians will be notified of excessive absences in writing. Excessive absences may result in a possible filing of truancy charges with the Arapahoe County Judicial System.

Excused Absences

1. Doctor appointment (with doctor‘s note)

2. Illness or injury

3. Court (proof of court appearance)

4. Death of a family member (proper documentation)

To excuse a student, parents shall notify the school office within 24 hours. Students with excessive excused absences (more than 10 a year) will be required to provide documentation to verify the legitimacy of absences.  Documentation will be required within three school days (72 hours) for students with excessive excused absences.

The school office will open at 7:15 a.m. and will close at 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.

At Arkansas, school instruction day begins at 7:45 a.m.  Your child should arrive on time for instruction to Arkansas between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.  Students who arrive late at 7:45 must walk through the front office to get a tardy slip.  Excessive tardies could result in truancy proceedings.

The school provides supervision until 2:30 p.m.  Supervision after that time is the responsibility of the parents.  When students are excused at the end of the school day, they are to proceed directly home via bus, walking, or parent pick-up.  Please make arrangements with your child before they arrive at school as to how they will get home.

Middle and high school siblings should wait outside of the building until the 2:15 bell rings.  Please be respectful of the school property by walking on sidewalks.

When it is necessary to pick up students early for appointments, parents must come into the office and sign out the students.  Students will be called to the office.  If your child is to be picked up by adults not named on the registration form, please send written notification to the office.
