ATTENDANCE

Our goal for attendance this year is 100%.  We can achieve this with your help.  We recognize the value when a student attends school daily and arrives on time.

We will formally recognize students who miss 3 or fewer days of school in a ceremony at the end of the school year.  Together, we can achieve our goal.

ATTENDANCE REPORTING

We ask that parents notify the school office if a child will be absent or ate for any reason.  Call the attendance line at (303) 326-1605 to notify the school.  When calling, please give your child’s name, teacher/room, reason why they will be out and who is calling.  In the event that we do not hear from you regarding your child’s absence, the attendance clerk will contact you at home or work.  This procedure enables us to account for all children.

Absences such as illness, injury, court, death of a family member are considered excused absences with proper documentation.

Students enrolled in the Aurora Public Schools are required to attend classes unless excused for good reason in accordance with the Colorado Compulsory Attendance Law.  It is the parent /guardian‘s responsibility to ensure that their child attends school. Children between the ages of 6 and 17 years of age are required by law to attend school. Students who miss more than 10 days of school are considered Habitually Truant.

Excessive absences affect the student‘s academic standing and, in accordance with state law, parents/legal guardians will be notified of excessive absences in writing. Excessive absences may result in a possible filing of truancy charges with the Arapahoe County Judicial System.

Excused Absences

1. Doctor appointment (with doctor‘s note)

2. Illness or injury

3. Court (proof of court appearance)

4. Death of a family member (proper documentation)

To excuse a student, parents shall notify the school office within 24 hours. Students with excessive excused absences (more than 10 a year) will be required to provide documentation to verify the legitimacy of absences.  Documentation will be required within three school days (72 hours) for students with excessive excused absences.
