CARDBOARD CHALLENGE DAY

Inspired by the short film, ‘Caine’s Arcade,’ the Cardboard Challenge was an event presented by the Imagination Foundation and Tiffany Tupps that celebrates child creativity and the role communities can play in fostering it. This October, kids of all ages were invited to build anything they can dream up using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination. Then on Thursday, October 6th, 2016, teachers, parents and communities all came together and played!  Check out pictures of what our kindergarten through 5th grade student at Arkansas Elementary created!

Fabulous Wildcats! As you know, we are hosting our first color run on May 11th at 8 am.  Here are some highlights you should know. The registration fee to run is $35. For every registration fee, Arkansas keeps $22.50. If we have just 150 participants we make $3,375!!!  This is open to all students, staff, parents, and anyone that wants to participate. If they don’t pay, they don’t run.  If students collect donations (not online) they can use that money for their registration fee.  If students register online it will ask for their $35 at that time. If they want to collect pledges to cover their registration they will not register online but via a paper registration.

Please show this quick video to your students to get them excited.

STATE TESTING PREP

Prepare Your Students for State Testing

Many of our students will participate in state testing this spring. Participation is important because results help students, parents and teachers understand whether students have mastered the content they need to know by the end of the school year to be on track for college and career success. Please help your students prepare to do their very best on these upcoming assessments.

To view the testing letter and related information, please visit aurorak12.org/testing.

If you need assistance posting this message to your sites, please contact APS Web Manager Rich Blegen at rablegen@aps.k12.co.us.

The goal is to inform parents and guardians of the dates that these tests will be offered, as well as participation guidelines and tips on how to help their students prepare.

The letter, assessment calendar and FAQ address the following assessments:

  • WIDA ACCESS
  • CMAS/DLM
  • PSAT
  • SAT

The testing window for the first set of exams (WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Summative Assessment) began on Jan. 8, with the other assessment windows beginning in March and April.

If you would like to download or print the letter and testing information, please visit aurorak12.org/testing. The information is available in our top languages.

In addition, we are sending an automated call to parents letting them know that an important packet is being sent home with students. This call will be sent out to parents on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.
