Announcements:

VON'S VISON DAY 2018

Did you know your heart weighs as much as a sneaker and is the size of your fist?
Most heart attacks occur between the hours of 8 and 9 in the morning.
Laughter increases your blood flow, which is good for your heart and may reduce stress and improve sleep.
Along with Wear Red Day, the American Heart Association is helping families and students learn how to take care of their hearts through the Jump Rope for Heart Program. Jumping Rope is great cardiovascular exercise, and the benefits are significant. By including physical activity into daily living, children and adults can significantly reduce the onset and burden of heart disease. Research shows that physical activity is good for everyone, young and old, and has many posi-tive outcomes such as reducing the risk of heart disease, depression, Type 2 diabetes, stroke, osteoporosis, and some cancers. Jumping rope, brisk walking, riding your bike, and swimming are all aerobic exercises that are good for your heart! Smoking is the most preventable cause of heart disease. Smoking increases the tendency of the blood to clot which can result in a stroke. Join us in celebrating Heart Health in February and increase your activity.
Arkansas students will be celebrating Jump Rope for Heart in Physical Education Class
the entire month of February!

STATE TESTING PREP

Prepare Your Students for State Testing

Many of our students will participate in state testing this spring. Participation is important because results help students, parents and teachers understand whether students have mastered the content they need to know by the end of the school year to be on track for college and career success. Please help your students prepare to do their very best on these upcoming assessments.

To view the testing letter and related information, please visit aurorak12.org/testing.

If you need assistance posting this message to your sites, please contact APS Web Manager Rich Blegen at rablegen@aps.k12.co.us.

The goal is to inform parents and guardians of the dates that these tests will be offered, as well as participation guidelines and tips on how to help their students prepare.

The letter, assessment calendar and FAQ address the following assessments:

  • WIDA ACCESS
  • CMAS/DLM
  • PSAT
  • SAT

The testing window for the first set of exams (WIDA ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Summative Assessment) began on Jan. 8, with the other assessment windows beginning in March and April.

If you would like to download or print the letter and testing information, please visit aurorak12.org/testing. The information is available in our top languages.

In addition, we are sending an automated call to parents letting them know that an important packet is being sent home with students. This call will be sent out to parents on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.
